"Hmm... I wonder what happens
when I change this?"

The students in Mr. Rossman's sixth grade science class have been studying variables. They have been working through various experiments testing the way that individual changes or “variables” affect the outcome of each experiment.
One experiment dealt with flight and students actually constructed the planes themselves and chose their own ways to change the experiment around. The standard experiment involves winding the plane’s propeller and measuring the distance it travels. Different groups decided on different variables to test such as adding weight to the plane, adding more rubber bands, and flying uphill/downhill.
Through this activity, students are learning the importance of setting up a controlled experiment so that accurate results may be observed and recorded.
