MISSION STATEMENT

The goal of the Washington Educational Center is to offer an alternative program to earn a high school diploma.

Young adults between the ages of 17 and 20 who have dropped out of school and reside in the Ephrata Area School district are eligible to apply for admission to the program.   With administrative approval, students currently enrolled in Ephrata High School may be admitted.  High school aged students outside the Ephrata Area School District must have the approval of the school district they attend or most recently attended.

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES
Before being admitted to WEC, a prospective student must complete an application, have a transcript of previous high school grades sent to WEC, and take an entrance exam.   The applicant must score at least at the eight grade level before beginning the high school program for credit.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

  1. Students are required to attend fifteen hours per week.

  2. Students are given discretionary time each month. All time lost to tardiness or absences, for whatever reason, is charged against that time.  The only hours of absence not charged are absences for which the school receives a note from a doctor or recognized agency.

  3. Students whose absences exceed the discretionary time during a month may be withdrawn for a period of time determined by the administration. They may reapply for admission but must go on the waiting list until a vacancy develops in the session they wish to attend.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. Students may not hurt their chances for success or the chances of anyone else.

  2. Students must remain on task at all times throughout the session.
