As a reward for surpassing the goal of $14,000 and raising over $17,000 in the school's Race for Education, students at Akron Elementary were give a special treat – Rita’s Ice and an afternoon of fun enjoying the “bouncy Castle” with family and friends. A disc jockey provided fun music while everyone tried to do as many laps around the track as they could, just pausing for a drink of water and cheers from the crowd!
The principal, Mrs. Gerhart, also got involved in the celebration by dressing like a pirate. She helped to pick names of students for prizes that were donated by local businesses.
During the Race for Education the students walked laps on a track outside the school to raise money. All the money raised directly supports school activities and the “extras”, such a field trips, assemblies, and family needs in times of crisis.
For surpassing the goal there will be a "family fun night" at the Ephrata Rec Center.
