"Our vocabulary is branching out,
it really makes us want to shout!
We love new words that we can show,
by using parts we already know!"
The vocabulary of students at Fulton elementary School has been branching out all year. Each week, students were introduced to a new word part. Each day a word with that word part was introduced during the morning announcements. In addition, teachers were encouraged to come up with other words for a drawing that was held each Friday. The word parts include, re-, un, pre-, mis-, con-, com-, tele-, and rupt- in addition to many others. Students were introduced to a total of 24 word parts and 120 new words.
As a culmination to this year long vocabulary quest, Fulton staff and students participated in a vocabulary parade on Wednesday, May 19, at the school. Each student and staff member selected a word that they could illustrate. During the parade, the students donned their costumes and had the opportunity to see other students and staff.
The parade was headed by Grand Marshall, Principal Gary Oberly. After the parade, students enjoyed refreshing water ice donated by Rita’s.
