The biggest taker from the award show had to be Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, winning best screenplay, best supporting actor with Brad Pitt, and best musical or comedy. Other notable winners were 1917 with best drama and best director, and Joker with best actor in a drama awarded to Joaquin Phoenix.

On this day in history in 1838, Samuel Morse demonstrated the telegraph for the first time. Although Congress was wary at first, he eventually convinced them to fund the invention and the first telegraph line was built from Baltimore to D.C. The first telegram sent said, “What hath God wrought!”
