Happy Veterans Day! Today is a special day for our country, as we honor the men and women who have served and are currently serving in our armed forces.
Every year, students and staff Districtwide participate in a variety of Veterans Day inspired lessons and activities, from placing flags around the Dick Winters’ Memorial and writing letters to Veterans in our community to having class discussions about the history of the holiday and creating schoolwide displays and videos.
Every year, elementary students also participate in the community Stocking for Soldiers program by coloring festive stockings and writing encouraging messages to Veterans, past and present. These stockings were sent off just this morning. Also, EASD staff participated in the nationwide dress-down Jeans for Troops initiative by contributing funds to the G.I. Go Fund. The money raised helps Veterans with employment, health care, and housing.
Please continue to discuss Veterans Day with your child later today. Asking your child what he or she did at school this week to recognize the holiday makes a great conversation starter during a car ride or over dinner.
Happy Veterans Day!
