Evelyn Sites holding certificate with Sallie Gregory

Evelyn Sites, who teaches fourth grade at Clay Elementary School, recently received the 2023 Conservation Educator Award from the Lancaster County Conservation District.  She was recognized for inspiring youth to learn and value conservation practices at an awards ceremony on March 30.

Ms. Sites incorporates student learning about watersheds with hands-on stream investigations.  “I have been working with the Lancaster County Conservation District for a few years now in an attempt to expand learning beyond the four walls of our classroom,” she said.

She has also taken on countywide leadership roles by creating and writing ecology curriculum and planning professional development about watersheds. “Evelyn brings a bright light to the profession of education making conservation study an engaging topic for students in her class,” shared Conservation District Educator Coordinator Sallie Gregory.

“When I received the news, I was shocked. I have met so many great educators who teach about ecology and the environment who are also very deserving of this award,” Ms. Sites concluded.
